“Who lives here? And what
are they doing, what makes them tick?
Who lives here? Or here? Or there? Or, who lives next door to you?
A man named Diego, calls me on
the phone here in San Diego and says: ?”I want to get to know
this person and this person and this person.
How can we do this?. What do
we want to know?
Lets ask them some questions. Who are you? What’s the rhythm of
your day? What year are you from? What’s your favorite sound?
Diego and his friends ask all these questions and they get answers,
rich, lovely answers. So they send them back to me. Filtered, filtered,
filtered.
What do I do with these things?
Who are these people? Let’s make a song for them.”?
The
Valley of the Dog Songs is a playful
documentary about six young people between 18 and 25 years of age, living
in Amsterdam, Jakarta, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Lima,
all of whom want to make art. The film tells their stories and shows
moments of their lives, interwoven with the life of Phil, a 37-year-old
musician and elementary school teacher living in San Diego, USA,
who tries to write a song for each one of these young people: the melody
of their lives.
The film talks about dreams, about
fear, about love, about friendship, and pleads for making time to meet
people.
This album includes
a DVD and an audio CD featuring the film and the songs for the film.
